Denim Day will be commemorated on Wednesday, April 24, 2024. This campaign serves as a means to raise awareness about sexual assault and its impact on individuals and communities.
The inception of Denim Day traces back to a pivotal incident, when the Italian Supreme Court controversially overturned a rape conviction on the premise that the victim’s attire “tight jeans” implied consent to the assault. In a show of solidarity, women within the Italian Parliament donned denim attire the following day, marking the start of a global movement. Over time, Denim Day has transcended borders, aligning with the observance of Sexual Assault Awareness Month throughout April. This collective initiative serves to educate and empower individuals in the prevention of sexual violence, while fostering environments of support and advocacy.
For valuable resources and information regarding sexual assault, visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website.
If you or someone you know may have been affected by sexual assault, I encourage you to consider seeking assistance from the Santa Ana Family Justice Center where you can access comprehensive support services and resources.
To show our solidarity and support for survivors of sexual assault, I encourage all staff members to join in Denim Day on Wednesday, April 24, by wearing jeans or denim attire. Please join me at 9 a.m. in the Plaza of the Sun near the fountain for a group photo session. Together, we aim to address and debunk prevalent misconceptions and myths surrounding sexual violence. Your presence will contribute significantly to our collective effort in fostering awareness and understanding this critical issue.
Thank you for in advance for your participation in this important campaign and your commitment to creating a safe and supportive workplace environment.
